Hospital Hill handball team is banking on the experience they have gained while featuring in the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men's league to propel them to the national title.
Skipper Dan Ngoni says despite the team making a late entry to this season's league, the matches played have helped them gauge how prepared they are and they will make amends where necessary.
Under the name Inspired Boys in the KHF league, the side opened the season with a with a 38-28 loss to former champions Ulinzi before falling 41-19 to holders National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
The students, however, caused the biggest upset of the league so far when they defeated Strathmore University 31-27 in the latter's for loss of the season.
"We opened the season against tough opponent but that is a plus for us as we get to judge our level against much tougher sides. Our conversion rate is wary but we will have time to correct on that.
Our eyes are set on getting the title that we missed out on in the last edition as we fell in the preliminaries. Thos exposure goes a long way in helping us achieve that target," offered Ngoni.
The KSSSA ball games had reached the sub-county level before Education CS Prof. George Magoha called for the early closure of schools to pave way for the country's general election.
While Hospital Hill may have little opposition in Nairobi region when it comes to the boy's handball, the side have their work cut out if they reach the nationals as they are likely to face among others the defending champion Kimilili High School and runners up Mbooni Boys.
Mbooni Boys are also taking part in the national league under the name Makueni Bees and coach Gerald Juma maintains that his side is going for both the national and regional titles in their second year of asking.
